I don't Understand (Why scammers think they're smart)

Writer: TOF SurvivorTOF Survivor

I've never understood why some people feel the need to scam others. I write this post, a few nights after a 'Solar Panel' scammer called from 'Green Solar Solutions'. This idiot had a thick Indian accent, and tried to get a hold of the 'property owner', Mr ****'. I told them, well that's going to be a problem, because we have a lot of ****'s in this family. We have a Raymond ****, a Jason ****, another Jason ****, a Darren ****, a Daniel ****, so w-which one are you after anyway. They paused for a few moments, before deciding on my name. 'Oh, **** ****? That would be me then. Speaking'. My dad, meanwhile was in the background chuckling a little, while I was hamming it up.

It went on like this for a few more minutes, hilariously wasting their time, until I told them that "We've had a few calls from people offering solar panels, and they're all a big scam". They tried to convince me that it wasn't, and it was very much a legitimate thing. They told me they wanted to send someone out to check on the electricity, or something, but when they said that, I told them 'Well, it's about time you did. We haven't had someone looking at out electric box for 7 years or so'. This was a lie, of course, but they didn't know that. They gave me their company name when I asked for it, which, as I mentioned during the start of this post, was 'Solar Green Solutions'. I pretended to log onto the computer, and type in the name of their company. After I pointed out their 'Company name' was a big scam, they just weakly said, 'Oh. Okay then, sir, goodbye'. My dad and I were cracking up about it afterwards, with me commenting 'I'm just lucky I took those drama lessons when I was younger, or else I couldn't have improvised that at all.

I wonder why people feel the need to scam others? Money? Greed? Poor conditions? To see if they can? I don't know, but I always try my best to be honest and open about almost everything. Obviously, I can't be too open, if that makes sense. But, as many people know, some people, like me, are too smart to fall for a pathetic scam, like government rebate solar panels, or getting called from the Technical department of whatever provider you have, or, one we had a little while ago, a call saying your NBN would be shut down. Other people, however, are not quite smart enough to realise they're being scammed.

It's almost laughable how pathetic their attempts to scam people are, referring to the person on the other end as either 'Sir', or 'Miss' or something. I mean come on! If you have our last names, why not just say our first names too, you cowards?

SAY MY NAME, SCAMMERS

One scam I saw somewhat recently, is when they got someone to download a Team-Viewer app on their computer. This particular app, is what I would call a Tech support scammer's best friend, and I say that, because not only does Team-Viewer allow the person being scammed (who for the rest of this post shall be known as the victim), to access the scammer's computer, but also allows the scammer to access the victim's computer as well. The scammer will say first hand that there is a virus on your ***** computer or someone hacking it, and it/they needs to be removed immediately. They'll get the victim to download the Team-Viewer app on their computer, so they can 'remove the virus', which is scammer talk for 'steal all of your money, and every other important bit of information you have'. Once they do, everything will be gone, and the victim will be none the wiser.

But, as stated before, some people will not fall for a pathetic scam like this, and will quickly catch on as to what's happening. It's ridiculous. I mean, there are enough scams out there to fill a few blog posts, but I think I've said all I needed to say. What about you though? Any tips or tricks of how to deal with scammers? Any stories to tell? If so, let me know if the comment section below, or contact me, to tell me your story on how to deal with idiots like this.

How do they hire scammers? Based on their stupidity?
